HISTORY LIVES IN BALLARAT
Ballarat's new tourism campaign was unveiled this month. It aims to
capitalise on Ballarat's strength as a regional Victorian destination for
history and heritage.
Everybody knows Ballarat is full of history, but it isn't confined to dusty
old books and stuffy museums. In Ballarat there is a living and
The campaign includes a series of photos featuring iconic Ballarat
locations throughout different moments in time.
The photo shoot took place in June at locations including Her Majesty's
Theatre, The Art Gallery of Ballarat, Craig's Royal Hotel, The Phoenix
Brewery and Victoria Park. The majority of the people who feature in the
photographs are Ballarat residents.
The tourism campaign is designed to appeal to people who are looking
for a weekend getaway. It has been market tested and was well received.
The "History Lives in Ballarat" tourism campaign will run for three years.
Elements of the campaign will be incorporated into a spring and
autumn advertising campaign, the 2009-10 Ballarat Official Visitors'
Guide, Ballarat Entice magazine and on Ballarat's official tourism
Ballarat businesses will be able to promote their products, services

HISTORY LIVES AT
CRAIG'S ROYAL HOTEL
You are enjoying a drink in the grand surrounds of Craig's Royal Hotel.
It's just been restored to its former glory and it's beautiful. Imagine for
a moment if you could sit on the sofa and as if by magic, see all the
parties, gatherings, and functions that have gone on in the hotel for the
last 100 years.
Imagine being witness to the night the American Confederate army
celebrated while on shore leave in 1865. Imagine the celebrations that
took place in that room when the Welcome Stranger gold nugget was
found. Watching Dame Nellie Melba give an impromptu performance
after her show across the road at the Theatre. Or listening to Mark Twain
entertaining guest with his stories during his stay in 1895. Imagine
young women doing the 'Charslton' standing on the tables during the
infamous parties of the 1920's. Imagine if you could see all the
famous, and infamous guests of the hotel enjoying themselves together
in the same bar at the same time.
Imagine being a part of this hotel's hundred or more years of history.
Well you can. You can share a drink in this same bar, now meticulously
restored to its former glory. You can be a part of that history. Because
History Lives In Ballarat.
