2009 Children's Fun Day
Ballarat families with young children are invited to participate in Children's
Fun Day. The event will be held in the Phoenix Mall, Armstrong Street South
on Friday 30 October from 10am -- 1pm.
The annual event coincides with Children's Week. It is run by Council and
other family and children's services based in Ballarat.
A variety of free activities will be on offer for preschool and primary school
aged children and their families/carers.
• an animal farm;
• face painting;
• story book readings with a children's librarian;
• a BBQ serving sausages in bread (free for children, gold coin
• the Kid's Foundation will focus on children's safety;
• music and movement activities;
• active play with the YMCA;
• fun at kindergarten;
• craft corner, including play dough, colouring in and painting;
"Have your say" soapbox corner; and
• balloons and bubbles.

Opera comes to Her
Ballarat residents will soon have the chance to see some of the world's best
Her Majesty's Theatre will screen performances direct from New York's
Metropolitan Opera Company. The Met: Live in HD 2009/2010 season will
feature modern masterpieces and the classics, by some of the greatest
opera stars in the world.
The Theatre has recently purchased a high resolution projector. Its primary
purpose is to enhance stage productions but also enables a trial of these
Council acknowledges the opera screenings are a bold new step, but this
move will enable the Theatre to provide Ballarat residents with new experiences.
Live in HD captures the on stage action from striking angles and enhances
your ability to appreciate the story and the staging of these amazing
productions. Behind the scenes features, live interviews with cast and crew,
insightful short documentaries, and bird's eye views of the productions offer
and unprecedented look at what goes into the staging of an opera.
