Council's draft Economic Strategy will be released in January.
The document will establish a strategic vision for economic development
and capture a wide range of opportunities. Ballarat is the fastest growing
inland city in Australia, and if this is to continue, there is a need to support
existing industries and indentify new growth sectors that have a
sustainable and profitable future.
When complete, the Strategy will guide Council in decision making and
provide clear direction about future economic development projects and
programs. It will also be an important resource for businesses with quality
research and analysis of emerging industries.
Council has been working closely with industry and key stakeholders
through an expert Advisory Committee and the results to date have been

TENDERWRITE SERIES A SUCCESS
The City of Ballarat's TenderWrite program has been a great success,
attracting in excess of 300 attendees to the seven session program and
increasing local businesses understanding of tendering processes.
TenderWrite has been so successful that other Victorian councils have
contacted the City of Ballarat for advice on how to replicate the initiative
for businesses in their region.
Council coordinated TenderWrite as part of its Import Replacement
Strategy which is designed to limit escape expenditure and maximise local
spend. Commerce Ballarat, VECCI, the Australian Industry Group, Regional
Development Victoria and the Industry Capability Network participated in
The feedback from participating businesses indicated an improved
understanding and appreciation of tender application processes and
empowerment to compete and win new business in the future. In addition
it had the added benefit of identifying skills gaps within their businesses
that they are now able to close with further targeted training.
Council is seeking information from local businesses on the most
appropriate tender information sessions to conduct in 2010. If you would
like more information on TenderWrite or would like to be involved in
TenderWrite next year please contact Council's Economic Development
Officer Peter Forbes on 5320 5672 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
