Ballarat Heritage Weekend
Take an unforgettable journey back in time this Mother's Day at the
Ballarat Heritage Weekend -- 8 and 9 May.
This year, the Ballarat Heritage Weekend is themed around travel and
tourism. Grand buildings, enchanting gardens, intriguing memorabilia and
collections will be on display -- many just for the weekend -- allowing visitors
to dig and delve into history they've never had the chance to explore before.
It will be a vintage collector's delight with vintage fashion exhibitions,
including Louis Vuitton luggage, swimsuits and accessories of an earlier
A host of grand buildings and gardens will open including Ercildoune
Homestead Gardens, Lal Lal Estate, the Old Colonists' Club and Loreto
Chapel and Gardens.
Enjoy a ride on a horse drawn carriage or vintage bus and see vintage cars
and bicycles. There will even be a steam train transporting visitors from
Melbourne to Ballarat on the Sunday, which will also make two return trips
to Lal Lal during its visit.
There will be a wide range of guided or self-guided tours on offer including
the Art Gallery of Ballarat, Her Majesty's Theatre, Ballarat Railway Station,
Prime Ministers Avenue and ghost and cemetery tours.
Indulge yourself with high tea at a selection of Ballarat's historic hotels, taste
local wines and tapas on the balcony of The George Hotel or enjoy a heritage
themed dinner and entertainment at the Old Colonists Club.
Nearly 100 activities and events are planned, most free of charge, others
with a gold coin donation or cover charge.
