Colin Smith Velodrome
upgrade nearing completion
The Colin Smith Velodrome in Sebastopol is undergoing a facelift. The
upgrade has been made possible thanks to $279,360 worth of funding from
the Federal Government's Regional and Local Community Infrastructure
Program and $70,640 from Council.
The Colin Smith Velodrome is the sole track cycling facility in the Ballarat
region. Work to restore and repair the Velodrome will ensure the facility is of
a suitable standard to offer safe, high quality racing and training facilities.
The upgrade involves a total reconstruction of the concrete surface with
improved track edging, drainage and surface traction. The Velodrome is home
to the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club and is also regularly used by local
schools and athletes. The upgrade will position the Velodrome as a regional
centre of excellence for track cycling and is expected to attract an increase in
local and regional competition events.
The Colin Smith Velodrome upgrade will be officially opened by Ballarat MHR
Catherine King and Councillor Ben Taylor on 2 March.
