The City of Ballarat has released the first yearly review of its four-year strategic
document, the Council Plan 2009-13. Council is seeking comment on the
draft revised Council Plan.
This important document helps Council plan to meet future community,
employment, growth, business and housing needs.
The updated Council Plan focuses on providing a viable balance between
major capital investment and infrastructure works that will drive local growth,
the preservation of our unique heritage, and the protection and enhancement
of the lifestyle so highly valued by Ballarat residents.
It is one of a suite of important Council documents - including the Long Term
Financial Strategy and the Council Budget 2010/11 - that provide a high
level of community confidence in the future direction of the organisation.
The updated Council Plan reflects the ideals, aspirations and visions of the
community, and lays out an effective plan for achieving those goals.
Some of the key initiatives for 2010/11 outlined in the draft revised Plan
Implementation of the Preserving Our Heritage Strategy
Implementation of the stormwater harvesting project
Preparation of a Settlement Plan as part of the Housing Strategy
Finalisation of the Activity Centres Strategy
Co-ordination of the Global Skills for Provincial Victoria Program
Explore feasibility of establishing an integrated children's services hub
• in the Sebastopol/Delacombe area
Development of a new youth space
Advocacy for suitable sustainable housing that considers the needs
of people as they age
Implementation of the Prince of Wales Park Masterplan
Support implementation of the Wendouree West Community Alliance
• Action Plan
Participation in the Delacombe Community Renewal Project
Establishment of the Ballarat Eco Living Centre
Implementation of the Investment Attraction Strategy
Development of a Tourism Strategy for the Lake and Gardens precinct
with links to the Lake and Gardens Masterplan
Development and implementation of a Visiting Friends and Relatives
Development of a Destination Ambassador program
Introduction of Arts and Culture trails
Implementation of the Central Highlands Regional Plan in collaboration
with other Central Highlands councils.
