Footy fans to celebrate the
To pay homage to the Eureka spirit and the birth of Australian democracy,
the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) each year hosts the Eureka Game
between the Richmond Tigers and the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
In its third year, the Eureka Game will see the Tigers play the Kangaroos
on Sunday 18 July.
Organised by the North Melbourne Football Club, Richmond Football Club
and City of Ballarat, the first Eureka Game was held in 2008 and was won
by North Melbourne. The second Eureka Game held in 2009 resulted in
The Eureka Game encourages awareness of the Eureka message right across
the nation, as well as increasing Ballarat's profile as a great destination
with a proud history and a contemporary lifestyle.
There will be opportunities for local residents to volunteer on the day, as well
as win ticket giveaways and participate in special promotions.

Ballarat secures World
Ballarat will host the world's best cyclists in September, with the Herald
Sun World Cycling Classic Ballarat to be staged here in the lead-up to the
2010 UCI Road Cycling World Championships.
Victorian Government Sports Minister James Merlino made the announcement
during a recent visit to Ballarat.
The Herald Sun World Cycling Classic Ballarat will be held on the acclaimed
Australian Championship course at Buninyong on Sunday 26 September
The Classic will be staged by the City of Ballarat, in conjunction with Cycling
Australia, the 2010 UCI Road Cycling World Championships Organising
Committee and the Victorian Government.
This lead-up event is expected to attract some of the world's best cyclists, and
will include an elite women's and combined elite/under-23 men's race.
The announcement is further recognition of Ballarat's reputation as a first-
class cycling city. It is hoped that those coming to Ballarat for the Classic
will make Ballarat their base during the World Championships.
The event will add to an already bumper weekend of cycling action in Ballarat
with the Australian Masters Cycling Championships to be held in the city
from Friday 24 to Tuesday 28 September. The Herald Sun World Cycling
Classic Ballarat will take place on the Masters rest day.
The UCI Road Cycling World Championships will be held in Geelong from
Wednesday 29 September to Sunday 3 October.
