World's best cyclists to
descend on Ballarat
Ballarat will again be in the midst of cycling fever in September with the
Australian Masters Championships, being held from Friday 24 - Tuesday
28 September, and the World Championships warm-up event -- the
Herald Sun World Cycling Classic Ballarat - being held on the Masters
rest day, Sunday 26 September.
2010 AUSTRALIAN MASTERS ROAD CYCLING
The Masters category, catering for riders over 30 years of age, is the
fastest growing category of competitive cycling membership in Victoria
The 2010 Masters Championships are expected to attract over 800 interstate
and international competitors, with male and female competitors to contest
the Road Race, Time Trial and Criterium disciplines.
With the UCI Road World Championships being staged in Geelong from Wednesday
29 September to Sunday 3 October, it is hoped that many of the Masters entrants
and supporters will remain in Ballarat after the Masters Championships and
commute to Geelong for the Road World Championships.

HERALD SUN WORLD CYCLING CLASSIC BALLARAT
As the major lead-up event to the 2010 UCI Road World Championships,
the Herald Sun World Cycling Classic Ballarat will feature a field of the
world's best cyclists.
This event is not only a bonus for the cyclists preparing for their World
Championships campaign but also a great opportunity for fans to see
their heroes in action.
The UCI Road World Championships stand at the pinnacle of the world
cycling calendar, ranking alongside the Tour de France as one of the most
coveted prizes in cycling.
Sunday 26 September
8.30am -- Elite women's road race
12.30pm -- Elite/under-23 men's road race
90km (approximately) -- Elite women's road race
130km (approximately) -- Elite/under-23 road race
Cycling in Ballarat continues to go from strength to strength and these
events will reaffirm our city's position as a world-class venue for road
cycling. Events such as this also have an important economic impact for
Ballarat, they help raise our national profile, and provide valuable flow on
effects for our community, in particular those in the accommodation and
