Special Olympic World
Ballarat will again be represented on the world sporting stage when Ben
and Matt Tuddenham head off to the XIII Special Olympic World Summer
Games in Athens, Greece from 25 June to 4 July next year.
Both Ben and Matt have been selected to represent Australia on the national
basketball team, an honour they are both proud of and extremely excited
Ballarat Mayor Cr Judy Verlin celebrated Ben's and Matt's selection to the
team with a presentation at the Ballarat Minerdome in early September
where, on behalf of the Ballarat community, she congratulated and presented
the Special Olympians with City of Ballarat lapel pins and caps.
"The community of Ballarat congratulates Ben and Matt on the great honour
of being selected to the Australian Special Olympics basketball team.
"Representing your country at any sport is an amazing achievement and
one of great honour.
"Ballarat has such a strong sporting legacy and a proud history of representing
our nation at the elite level and it is with delight that we add Ben and Matt
to that distinguished list.
"As a community I am sure we are all proud of their achievements and we
wish them the best of luck at the World Summer Games in Athens, Greece
next year," the Mayor said.
