Construction begins on new
Buninyong tennis courts
Work has commenced on a $474,345 project to construct eight new acrylic
coated tennis courts at the Buninyong Tennis Centre. The project involves the
construction of eight courts and the installation of lighting for four courts.
The Buninyong Tennis Centre, which is the largest tennis association in the
Ballarat region, currently operates nine asphalt based courts and is managed
by the Buninyong and District Tennis Association.
Continuing Council’s commitment to developing the city’s major sporting
precincts, this project will confirm the Buninyong Tennis Centre’s reputation
as the ‘home of community tennis’ in the region. Development of the new
courts will also increase community participation and provide the Centre
with the capacity to host regional competition events.
The new courts will be constructed in two separately fenced enclosures. The
courts will be constructed partly over the area where the existing courts are
and partly on the vacant land to the east of the existing courts.
In September, Council awarded the contract for the project to A.S Lodge
Pty Ltd who have specialised in tennis court construction for the past 30
years. The project has been jointly funded through Council’s Capital Works
budget and a $50,000 contribution from the Buninyong and District Tennis
Construction is expected to be complete by Januar y 2011.
Once again Council will celebrate the contribution young children make to
our community with the staging of all things exciting and fun at its annual
Children’s Fun Day.
As part of the state wide Children’s Week initiative, Ballarat’s Children’s Fun
Day will be held on Wednesday 27 October 2010 from 10am until 1pm.
As in previous years, the activities will take place in the Phoenix Mall
between Bath and Chancer y Lanes. Residents please note that the Mall
will be closed to traffic during the festivities.
Parents and children can expect a wide range of fun, interactive and educational
activities to celebrate being a young child in Ballarat, including:
Serenity Animal Farm;
BBQ lunch with free sausages for the children;
City of Ballarat Maternal and Child Health and Family Day Care
Eureka Community Kindergarten Association (ECKA)
Music and dance activities;
Ballarat Community Circus;
Pinocchio Toy Library;
Active Play with the YMCA;
Playgroup information and activities; and
Stor y time.
Council also takes the opportunity during Children’s Fun Day to ask
Ballarat’s youngest residents their opinions on a range of topical issues.
This consultation is often on long term strategic issues that will come into
effect as these children grow up and Council feels it is important that
Ballarat’s youngest residents’ views are also heard.
