Ballarat Begonia Festival 2011
Ballarat is once again preparing to burst into full bloom for this year's Ballarat
Begonia Festival, held over the Labour Day long weekend from Saturday
12 -- Monday 14 March 2011.
The Robert Clark Conservatory's theme for this year is a 'Kaleidoscope
of Colour' where visitors will be surrounded with colourful tiered walls of
Once again, gardening enthusiasts will be able to speak with members of the
Victorian Begonia Society, Friends of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, Ballarat
Floral Art Group and the Ballarat Cactus and Succulent Society. All will be
on hand to answer your gardening questions and plants will be available for
purchase throughout the Festival.
BOTANICAL GARDEN TOURS
Take a tour to find out more about the Ballarat Botanical Gardens. Informative
tour guides will take you on a journey through the Ballarat Botanical Gardens,
Marble Statue Collection and the Prime Ministers' Avenue.
TWILIGHT CINEMA -- SUNDAY 13 MARCH
Pack a picnic and come down to the foreshore of Lake Wendouree to experience
a movie under the stars. More information on the feature movie and starting
times will be available closer to the date from the Festival website www.
Children can visit the Woodworking Shed to create their own toolbox, pencil
case, cradle or bird feeder and then take it to the Plaster Funhouse tent for
painting, or they can immerse themselves in the world of craft at ArtRageous
where they can make a number of garden critters or flowers to take home.
Farmer Darryl's Petting Farm will again be visiting this year's Festival so children
can get in amongst the pens and hay bales to see calves, sheep and lambs,
goats, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits and friendly miniature pigs.
For the adventurous there will be the inflatable fantasy island and shark slide
where everyone can join in the fun or parents can choose to relax and watch
their children burn off some energy.
BALLARAT LAKESIDE FARMERS MARKET -- SATURDAY 12
MARCH, 9AM - 5PM
Take a stroll through the Ballarat Lakeside Farmers Market and experience
a variety of stalls selling meat and vegetable produce, crafts, plants and
Council is encouraging residents and visitors alike to celebrate the return
of water to the Lake by enjoying a turn on one of the paddle boats, canoes,
aluminium row boats or traditional clinker timber row boats that will be
available for hire.
MAIN STAGE FREE ENTERTAINMENT
Throughout the weekend free entertainment will be available on the Main Stage,
including a magic show, circus firemen act, musicians and dance groups.
THE COURIER BEGONIA PARADE
A long term favourite for the whole family, The Courier Begonia Parade will
be held on Monday 14 March from 11am as a colourful conclusion to the
Ballarat Begonia Festival activities. The Parade will travel along Wendouree
Parade, starting from Hamilton Avenue and finishing at the North Gardens.
A highlight this year will be a visit from 'Fifi and the Flowertots'.
