Major Projects update
PRINCE OF WALES CAR PARK
Work has begun on the expansion of the northern car park at Prince of Wales
Park as part of Council’s continued implementation of the adopted 2009 Prince
of Wales Park Master Plan.
The current 60 places will be expanded to 280, including four accessible parks,
providing much needed extra parking spots for all reserve users.
The project, including lighting of the car park, is valued at $908,000 and is being
fully funded by Council. Work is expected to be completed by March 2012.
Last month, almost 40 submissions were received on the proposed locations
of school, shops, major parks and roads in the Ballarat West Growth Area. With
many supportive responses, minor revisions will now be made to the urban
structure as a reflection of the feedback. A summary of feedback received
to date and an outline of the next steps in the project will be mailed out to
landowners and submitters in December.
The draft Ballarat West Employment Zone Master Plan is scheduled to be
released in December with community comment and consultation sessions
taking place in January 2012. The draft Master Plan was developed following
extensive background work and community engagement, including meetings,
workshops and drop in sessions with community members, stakeholders,
businesses and potential investors.
Council has formally commenced the placement of a Public Acquisition Overlay
over private land along the future route of the Ballarat Western Link Road.
Planning for the construction of Stage 1 between the Western Freeway and
Remembrance Drive/Sturt St has commenced, funded by the State Government.
Background studies for the project are largely complete and environmental
approvals are underway.
AUSTRALIAN CENTRE FOR DEMOCRACY @ EUREKA
The Australian Centre for Democracy @ Eureka is in now in the construction
phase with various activities currently being completed on site. The exhibition
of the planning application for the project is in its final stages and will be signed
off by the end of the year.
The Eureka Flag will be returned to the Art Galler y of Ballarat prior to being
relocated to the Australian Centre for Democracy @ Eureka. The flag has been
successfully restored and will become a focal point of the new centre.
